Once in a lifetime // Marlene and Bellatrix // Para
bellablack-at-heart:
Bellatrix laughed loftily, pushing her wild curls behind her ear as she stared at the little blonde with a malevolent glint shining brightly in her eyes. Marlene McKinnon, the most prideful of all the Ravenclaws, was standing before her, still standing tall with her chin raised and her blue eyes glaring up at the snake coldly. She didn’t want to be here, that much was obvious considering the two never got along, but yet she was here and she was asking Bella for help. Even if it wasn’t in so many words. Bella’s lips twitched up into a sly smirk.
Marlene was asking Bellatrix for help.
“Well, isn’t this a once in a lifetime account.” Murmured the ebony haired witch, giggling at the end of her sentence. “Someone should record this historical moment!”
The wicked witch took a step towards the tiny blonde, eyebrows raised, and her sly smirk turning into a condescending one. She lowered her voice, as to make sure that no one was listening to this conversation. “Tell me, what exactly do you want, McKinnon?” the Slytherin took one more step towards Marlene, now invading her personal space. If the girl wanted help, then Bella was going to insist that she actually ask. She was going to humiliate her in the way that would hurt her most. Bellatrix Black was going wound this girl’s pride and she was never going to let Marlene McKinnon forget it.
“What is it you want?”
Marlene had been having one of those days that she hated the most. Wasn’t it just days ago that Gilderoy and her had been having a conversation about a certain blonde Gryffindor that she’s not really fond of? And now here she is wanting nothing else but to hex the hell out of the same person. She squinted her eyes as the sun glare down at her but she walked unfazed wanting nothing but to find the one person she knows who will be able to help her without any questions regarding the blonde.
She might hate the Gryffindor’s guts with a vengeance but she’s the perfect Ravenclaw with the perfect grades, she has to act the part and maintain a clean slate of not getting into detention at all. Finally, she saw the dark haired witch she was looking for. With her wild curls, framing her face Bellatrix Black looks as regal and at the same time lunatic as she is seated in the far end corner of the corridor as if it’s her throne. No one is loitering near her and Marlene figured that it’s due to her reputation of being feared by most. Her behaviour is very volatile and the last thing anyone will want to know except some who are bold enough to face her wrath is to cross the eldest of the Black sisters.
Marlene braved the remaining steps that separates her to the Slytherin. Finally, she approached her and after the cold greetings, the older student’s laughed rung in her ears. Every fiber of her being hated the fact that she’s standing right here wanting nothing but alliance with this appaling human creature, but if it’s results she wants, it’s with Bellatrix that she’ll get it.
She gritted her teeth as Bellatrix walked over to her with that arrogant smirk plastered on her face. It wasn’t enough that she was giggling and emphasizing how unlikely this situation is but the taller and dark-haired girl had to go and step close to her and demand with a low voice to know what she came here for. For a second, it felt like this was a bad idea, that Marlene should just go and turn around, maybe seek the help of her other friends. Maybe the Marauders will help her, but then again, they have that stupid loyalty to their house that they probably won’t even if she tries to blackmail them to it.
“I came here to help you get even with one of those little birdies that your darling Rodolphus is fond of playing with.” She said trying to choose the words carefully. Appearing weak in Bellatrix Black’s eyes is the last thing Marlene will ever do. She will play the equality game. She was a McKinnon afterall, their blood is as pure as the Blacks and truth be told they might even be wealthier. So, no, she won’t have Bellatrix have the satisfaction of looking down on her just because she enlisted the help of the Slytherin.

Doe shrugged as they entered the clothing store, the sight of different colors and styles of the latest trends in the wizarding clothing greeted them. It really wasn’t her preferred way of spending her free time in Hogsmeade but she’s got to admit that these witches and wizards were really good with their job. She fingered the sleeve of a dress robe that caught her eye but didn’t let it linger. “Maybe a scarf would be nice, I don’t really need anything new.” She said to answer Mary’s question, ever the practical one.
At Marlene’s mention of lunch at Honeydukes and the visiting of the bookshop sooner than expected, Doe couldn’t help but give a little clap of delight. “I’ve been wanting to restock my stash of sweets for quite awhile now but maybe a trip to the Three Broomsticks as well? I don’t think all the sweets would be healthy for Mary here and safe for the two of us, Marls.” Doe couldn’t help but laugh. After that bit of awkwardness for a second there, she hoped that wouldn’t affect the mood for the rest of the trip. Maybe it wouldn’t be as bad as she imagined it to be? Doe, after all, had a knack for thinking things would end up worse than they were really going to be.
“Oh please,” she replied, not being able to hold back a snort at the mention of the snakes. “They’re not worth any of our time, much more spoiling our day for.” If there were pureblood supremacists, there was the anti-pureblood supremacist in the form of Dorcas Meadowes. She gave Mary a big smile of support. “Besides, they have to go through us if they have a problem with anything.”
Browsing through the scarves on display, she chose one with a nice abstract print and tried it out by wrapping it around her neck and checking herself in the mirror. Tilting her head to the side and biting her bottom lip in thought for a minute, she turned to her two friends with a smile. “I’m done!” She announced brightly, unwrapping the scarf from her neck and seating herself in a waiting chair and placing her selected scarf in her lap.
Taking out a nice book about a mermaid who wanted to have legs she borrowed from Lily, she started reading. Knowing these two, choosing clothes and shoes could possibly take hours.
The first step into the store and it felt as if every burden magically slipped off of her shoulders. She took a deep breath, taking in the scents of new clothes, watching the racks and cabinets filled with clothes, jewelry and more shoes. For some strange reason it felt as if this was what she had been looking for after the stressful weeks.
For a minute - after Marlene’s comment - she wondered if she knew about her peculiar walk with William Nott. She brushed the thoughts away, Marlene couldn’t have. Mary hadn’t talked about it with anyone, and Marlene was great, but she wasn’t a psychic. I hope. “Will you kick their arse for me if they do spoil it?” she suggested happily. “unch and Honeydukes sounds great. I need new sweets. I don’t think I’ll survive without any of it.”
A smile graced her face as her fingers glided over the gorgeous heels that had captured her eye. Clothes had never disappointed her before and she wondered why she hadn’t snuck out to do this earlier. This was her outlet, this and dancing, and eating sweets - as Doe had pointed out. “Please, I can handle it! It’s not my fault that I hold my sugar better than my alcohol,”
With a chuckle she twirled away from her friends. As she continued her twirling, she grabbed a shopping basket adding unnecessary things that she didn’t need anyway. She snapped out of her dreamy state of mind, when she heard Dorcas announcing she had finished shopping. She turned around, what? Doe had comfortably seated herself into a big chair, with a scarf on her lap and a book in her hands. The Little Mermaid, she constituted slowly. Oh for fucks sake, you’ve got to be kidding me, Mary thought. She slapped her hand against her forehead and let out a groan.
Without giving her blonde friend any attention, she walked to the closest rack, and let her fingers slide between the many dresses. And than without saying a word, she pulled the perfect dress out of the rack and glanced quickly at Dorcas in the chair. It wasn’t the type of dress Doe would pick out, but Mary knew it was a perfect fit. And she wouldn’t get out of this store if her friend hadn’t at least tried it on.
She dragged her feet to Marlene, wiggled the dress in front of her and pulled her shoulders. “What do you think?” she asked for her to confirm her opinion. “Do you think I’ll get her into this? It’s pretty isn’t it?” She hooked her arm with Marlene’s, and pulled this girl to the other girl reading her book.
“Oi, Gazelle,” she interrupted, snapping the little mermaid out of Doe’s hands and replacing it with the dress instead. “You’re wearing it to my birthday party.” Mary’s birthday wasn’t until next year. “It’s in a few weeks and I want you to wear this because it’ll look amazing and pretty.”
Marlene immediately felt that familiar rush of magic as they stepped inside the store of Gladrags Wizard Wear. Yes, it’s often the old boring garments of wizards and witches but sometimes there are also some muggle fashion being able to snucked in between those hangers and thankfully Mary and Marlene were able to possess that awesome talent of weaving to rows and rows of clothes from this store and never go empty handed without a fashionable clothing in hand. All of frustrations about what Sirius said yesterday vanished into thin air as the smell of new clothes assaulted her senses.
“Well I did say lunch THEN Honeydukes, Doe, don’t worry, I know how much Mary needs her nutrients.” She winked at her friend and walked over to the isle where she knew her size would be. They had been going to this store for years that she knew every inch of it already. Somehow when she talked about the Slytherins bullying Mary, she saw a unexplainable look on the brown-haired Gryffindor’s face. Could it be that she was once again, cornered by one of those bloody gits and she just forgotten to tell them. But as fast as she saw it, it dissappeared so she just assumed it might just be her mind playing tricks on her.
Immediately, two of her friends went to where they fancy. Doe to the scarves which she said was the only one she needs and Mary to the shoe section where her eyes already glaze at the vast array of new styles lined up. Mary immediately filled up her basket while Doe hurriedly announced that she’s done shopping with them only being in the store not more than five minutes, ate least that’s how it felt like for Marlene. She hadn’t even been able to go and examine that other squared neck torquiose dress and was only on the first dress that caught her eyes. She whirled around and saw Dorcas seated comfortably in the big chair with a book on her hands once again. Marlene glanced up to the opposite side where Mary is and had to fight off a smile at the comical way Mary slapped her hand to her forehead and let out a groan.
She stood there and watched what her friend will do with the situation. Marlene knew what Mary was planning to do and she will definitely help her out on it. The brunette held up a dress in front of her in a few minutes and for effect she put a hand on her chin and try to look as if criticizing the dress thoroughly. “Hmm…well, we can’t deny how amazing our fashion sense are, so you know I’d agree. We just have to rub it of unto her!” She pointed to Doe and soon they were marching towards Dorcas. Marlene tried to fight off a chuckle as Mary unceremoniously took the book and shoved the dress on their friend’s lap. “Come on, Dorcas, you know you won’t be able to get her off your back unless you try it on. Humor her.” she coaxed her very studious friend. (Source: bloodyawesomemckinnon)

Oh how I’ve missed this petty drama.
bellablack-at-heart:
bloodyawesomemckinnon:
Bella.
Marlene.

Oh what do I owe the pleasure of your presence?
Well…You know how the two of us have had our differences but you can’t deny our similarities. And that’s our intolerance for STUPIDITY.

“Yes, Tomes and Strolles, Mary. It’s been awhile since I’ve been to Hogsmeade and there might be new books out.” Doe replied in a deadpan voice just as Marlene joined in on the teasing as well. “Not everything in the library,” she told the blonde defensively. “Just about almost a quarter of it,” she added sheepishly. Seriously, who could ever finish reading all those books in the library? As much as Doe would want to, she could only dream. Not even Dumbledore could accomplish such a task… right?
As Marlene and Mary voted for clothes to be their first destination, she couldn’t help but roll her eyes good-naturedly. Of course they would want to go check out the clothes first and then to feed off Mary’s love for shoes. Maybe Doe could sneak out for awhile while they were trying on outfits and head to the bookstore without them noticing? Then when it was time for them to go there, she’d know exactly what she wanted and that would show the girls she didn’t take forever in a bookstore. Ha! One point for Dorcas Meadowes.
Besides, Doe didn’t really need any new clothes. Her mother made sure of that when she dragged her to almost every clothing store before school started which was a pretty tiring experience every year. Maybe a new scarf or coat to have something new in her closet would be nice. She was a girl too, after all.
“Lily? Who knows what that girl has been up to. I haven’t seen her long enough to have a decent conversation with. Same goes for the Marauders so don’t worry, you’re not really missing out on anything.” Doe sighed as she tightened her hold on Marlene’s arm. “Studying for the OWLs is really tiring work, so that’s basically what I’ve been up to.” She shared with her two friends. “You’re so lucky you’re done with it, Mare.”
Asking Marlene what she was up to was something Doe didn’t want to bring up. Even if Mary said she was okay with the Golden Twins dating, it was Doe that would feel really uncomfortable and awkward about it so she chose to act like she just forgot to ask. After all, they had the whole day ahead of them. It was planned to have fun and catch up with each other. Doe didn’t want to ruin it by opening her big mouth.
“Doe’s been hiding herself under her bed, dreading the exams,” Mary explained. “Therefore she doesn’t have a lot time to hang with us or the Marauders. I sneaked out to Hogsmeade with Remus, and I’ve been carefully avoiding Lily.” It was true, she hadn’t seen Lily in a while, which saddened Mary. She loved Marlene and Doe, but sometimes she couldn’t help but feel an outsider. However with Lily it had always felt right, not once had she felt the need to impress the girl. They had so much in common it felt as if they were twins, separated at birth.
”Oh please, you have nothing to worry about.” Mary said, brushing away Doe’s whining about the OWLs. Really, she wasn’t that lucky, sure she had a lot of free time but that was quickly snatched away by Lily who wanted to study ever single moment of the day. For some reason - while she was supposed to enjoy her “free time” - Mary had spend more time on her assignments than she had done the entire year of her OWLs. “I have N.E.W.Ts to look forward too, remember? Besides I have Lily running after me, you’re luckier.”
It felt as if Doe swallowed back a question, and thinking it through, she realized she was right. This was usually the part where either one of them would ask how the Ravenclaw tower was, but - apart from Emmeline - Mary couldn’t be quite bothered to know what was going on in there. She bit her lip, almost tasting the awkward and uncomfortable silence. “Right, this isn’t awkward at all,” she murmured inaudible.
Her hand wrapped around the doorknob, magically providing them with an entrance right into the massive clothing store. “So, are we looking for anything in particular?”
Marlene knew both of her friends tried to avoid asking about her and what’s been going on in her side of the castle, after all she knew them too well. She wanted for all the awkwardness to go away, they’re her friends and they want to share everything with them but maybe this is one of the consequences she has to face.
The blonde decided to just swallow the sadness she was feeling and smiled brightly instead. “You still have a year before you take your NEWTs and I doubt Lilypad will not nag you about studying.” She added a chuckle for effect. “Let’s go find your shoes first then dresses afterwards.”
She hold unto both of them tighter but in her head she was wighing things down. Will this always be the case from now on? Will she not be able to share to them her worries and stuff regarding Gilderoy? Both of them said they will support her relationship no matter what but why does it feel like they don’t. Marlene tried to brush the negative thoughts away. This was a day for her and her friends and such mood dampening moods should not be welcomed.
“Then lunch then Honeydukes and finally to Doe’s happy place!” She said finally then throw both of the Gryffindors her winnintg smile. “Oh and before I forget no matter how many Slytherins we’ll meet, don’t mind them, Mare. We won’t have anyone spoil our day okay?” (Source: bloodyawesomemckinnon)
